@igwigg for music production, i'm personally rocking a focusrite scarlett solo as my audio interface, a pair of sennheiser HD 599SEs as my headphones, and a shure sm58 as my microphone (you can definitely cheap out more on the mic if listening is your priority- it's also the most expensive part of my kit! ;p)
@r0se seems sound enough for small-scale setups, though assuming a web interface to host public shares, managing domains for that could be pretty annoying. multiple accounts also further encourages encryption at rest, which is a good idea either way.
@r0se key features i would personally prioritise if building my own:
- syncing files (optionally, encryption at rest- it's all on my home server anyway) - multiple accounts (i could share the service with others without compromising my own data) - ability to create public access links (with options for temporary, read-only, password-protected, etc.) - maybe a markdown editor. maybe.
i do not need a cloud docs editor, i have libreoffice. i do not need an email client, i have thunderbird. etc etc.
caldav and carddav would be nice, but honestly i'd probably build a separate service for that to maintain the "gadget that does one thing really well" mentality
@r0se super sceptical about copyparty- it looked really sick when it dropped but it was pretty clear that it wasn't ready for primetime at that point. idk where the project is at the moment but i certainly haven't heard of it used in the field since the hype cycle died out.
i've been very strongly considering just building my own from scratch because of how much nextcloud has infuriated me (all art is born from either lust or spite)
@r0se nfs works for files too large to deal with regular syncing/offloading (i.e. stream VODs), but my music workflow in particular really benefits from a more cloud sync-like setup.
i might give syncthing a proper peek, though opencloud was also recommended and seems pretty nice.
notably, while i mostly only use nextcloud for syncing files between devices, i do occasionally create fileshares for friends, so i'd like to keep that feature if at all possible.
this shit just breaks my workflow. i cannot continue working until nextcloud gets its shit together and lets me use my files.
i'm gonna take this opportunity while my work is still completely disrupted and just migrate all of these to my external drive instead. done with this nonsense
i have been waiting 5-10 minutes for it to download a ~4KB synthesiser preset so my DAW, which is frozen until the file arrives, can actually function.
@agatha a remnant of female beauty standards from like, the 80s/90s or something. men wanted their women thin and dainty, so women were socially forced to conform to that standard. it's widely frowned upon these days to drastically reshape your body for the appeal of the patriarchy these days, but still prevalent in some subcultures afaik.
@coolbean "i used to swim a bunch as a kid" the trick is to flex this physical strength. i'd like to see someone bragging about their narrower shoulders beating you in a swim lap
"my nose is crooked" it has beautiful character "my eyes are too big" all the more to look at "my hips are too wide" are you really falling for that in the year of our goddess aphrodite, 2026
