re: Russian propoganda, how it works, and bots@OctaviaConAmore i'd definitely like to see more reliable stats and citations around this subject. you're right that we've been hearing all sorts of views supporting either extreme case, so the disinformation machine is still very much in full-swing regardless of whichever outcome was actually the reality.
i've definitely gotten very fed up with how often i have to second-guess half of what i read, hear, and see online. it's exhausting
@navi@l would system-wide not be kernel, or something in user-space using dbus? just throwing ideas at the wall.
it seems like it's not a mystery how to implement this, more that someone hasn't done it already. i love my yubikey and i've seen first-hand how awkward application support has been for the tech on linux.
@navi@l the bridge approach here is interesting- if the issue is with kernel support, couldn't someone just develop a kernel module? or is it not that straight-forward
my opinion on the CN leaks very quickly went from "hey maybe the artists didn't want those out there :(" to learning a thing or two and realising "hey wait the big corpos had these artists under ball and chain and flat refused to let them use this material in their portfolios what a dick move!"
it's become increasingly clear to me through many creative industry leaks that despite an artist's pride in their many months of work, if it doesn't make the shareholders happy, it gets thrown in the wood chipper.
it's a harrowing loss of beautiful work and it should absolutely be prevented.
