complaint about how people refer to linux distros (stable v unstable) @tulpenkiste perhaps "feature" distros, then? would align with the description (prioritising feature updates over constant rolling-release packages), and these distros tend to provide a more curated environment. you know, as a feature

it's not 100% accurate, as one would hope you get minor patches and security updates between feature releases, but generally your major application updates come with major distro releases

i should note (before someone assumes otherwise) that this post was not prompted by any one specific person's actions, or necessarily by anyone at all. i've been meaning to draw these lines for a while, so here they are.

my audience has grown quite fast over the past few months, and i'm becoming increasingly aware of parasocial relationships.

this has resulted in me being a bit more abrasive than i'm used to, even with very polite folks who reach out to me in my community. please excuse me on this- i'm asserting boundaries in the best way i know, and i'm sure this will improve with time and experience. just trying to nip things in the bud before they can get bad.

i've also noticed that i've attracted some minor followers. please know that i do not make content for children. anything i make that's child-safe is more of a coincidence than by design. i want my audience to be safe in the same way i do any fellow being, but i do not wish to filter myself for safer viewing. 18+ content is not off the table for me, albeit on another alias, and i would be devastated to find a minor has gotten anywhere near that (aside: i suspect a very young viewer is currently watching my signalis streams, and this alone makes me very uncomfortable).

for all intents and purposes, assume my regular work is 16+, leaning on 17+. the usual warnings for strong language and adult themes generally apply. i am perfectly comfortable with you enjoying what i make if you are 18 or older.

some extra boundaries to be mindful of, that i've neglected to raise until now:
- please do not attempt to solicit hugs, pats, or other physical affirmations beyond a firm handshake.
- i will try to be a good influence, but i am only human. treat me as nothing more, and always question.
- i appreciate if you respect me and admire my work, but unless told otherwise, i am not your friend.
- while these boundaries are at the forefront of my mind, they are not exhaustive. use common sense.

if you are exempt to any of these boundaries, you know who you are by now.

framework sponsoring right wing-led open-source projects @jackemled i also find it counter-intuitive to framework's very human-centric mission to suddenly bend the rules against the safety and wellbeing of other humans. i believe that's a big part of what makes this so jarring.

the brain drain you'd face by alienating the entire queer community would surely eclipse the technical prowess of two or three white guys who believe in great replacement theory

re: framework sponsoring right wing-led open-source projects @jaredwhite i don't usually think of open-source as a political stance, but considering that framework is currently one of the biggest forces behind open, ethical, and consumer-friendly hardware in the world right now, i definitely see your point!

with this in mind, it's very interesting to see this giant, ostensibly political force suddenly temper themselves to "apolitical discourse" the moment marginalised people's rights and freedoms enter the equation.

the current discourse across the fence reads a lot like "we're having fun with our cultural movement over here, take your other yucky cultural movement somewhere else"
