"minor dev note for [app]: i'm using deno, not bun, because julia yelled at me for typing "bun" into my terminal. take it up with her! i'm starting the project with deno "
current vibe: use cinny, join a homeserver, host continuwuity if you're a nerd, join unencrypted rooms, and be happy.
and don't, for the love of god, fall for the joke that is matrix spaces. i get angry every time i'm reminded they exist. such a poorly-supported hack :(
doubling down: unencrypted matrix rooms are the most stable i have joined. federation takes a sec, but then i get to have things like...chat history. not having to worry if i'll still see my messages tomorrow. worthless crap like that!
@partridge i've personally found that forcing people to "toughen up and get over it" when sacrificing quality-of-life does not yield good fellowship. i think we'd rather have people on our side than otherwise.
note that folks on fedi are far more open to trying out niche social media experiences than the average person. discord holds the status quo. people are used to it. you're asking a lot for them to change their experience on there, nor to mind leaving altogether. it's important to be mindful of that.
i've decided i don't really care about encryption on matrix. vuln or otherwise, the platform continues to have usability issues even if you run entirely unencrypted chat rooms. i'd direct my concerns there first.
@doskel when it comes to "business" calls (generic term; mostly talking about like, calling my pharmacy to collect prescriptions), i'm at lot more comfortable, but i still need to work out what i'm gonna say when they pick up the phone beforehand.
@doskel general anxiety, kinda! i need to be really comfortable with a person to accept a direct call. even if the alternative is literally just hopping into a one-to-one voice chat on discord, i'd still lean for that over a direct call. it's pretty weird and irrational for sure.
specifically on phone: i'm generally uncomfortable calling friends when i'm not at my proper setup at home (i can't rely on voice quality, and i've been overstimmed by awful background noise and the like before)
