@neobrain thanks for the advice! this software is extremely new to me so i didn't want to risk (time) pressing buttons i don't understand. disabling TSO memory and enabling reduced x87 precision yielded some hefty performance boosts! at 640x480p, half-life runs very competently averaging 30-50fps. very impressive for the pi 4b's little broadcom chip!
try as i might, library forwarding has not been without issues. steamwebhelper fails to launch successfully with asound, drm, or waylandclient enabled, and forwarding GL results in ELFCLASS32 and GLIBC version errors. if you think this is worth a github issue, i'd be happy to report this! forwarding vulkan has been pretty harmless, albeit very inconsequential for my test case.
@neobrain@breakin happy to say i've just tried this! FEX build and install went incredibly smoothly on my pi 4, albeit very slowly (note: i use an external USB3 boot drive, and was running completely stock; no overclocking or other tweaks)
installed steam, half-life, jumped into training, got about 10fps avg. at 1080p. tanking resolution only gave me about 1 extra fps average, so my bottleneck is likely CPU. i haven't tweaked my pi or FEX at all yet. very stable, though!
actually running it all was very simple: steam installed as normal on the host, and run with FEXBash steam. everything is lifted to x86_64 from there.
currently trying to investigate how much of a performance boost i can get by forwarding host libraries...fingers crossed!
@neobrain i'm only hearing of FEX today after hearing the announcements, and i'm genuinely excited to try running x86 games on my raspberry pi 4 when i get the chance. thank you so much for your development efforts, and that of the whole FEX contributor team! <3
