@neobrain fascinating! with libraries forwarded, mangohud reports identical drivers on host and guest (V3D 4.2.14.0), but disabling forwarding instead reports zink from the guest. that seems to prove your lack of rpi drivers on rootFS theory.

testing it further: glxgears native at the same resolution gets about 100fps with openGL, and 250fps with zink. really impressive!! unfortunately, i don't appear to get the same performance gains when deliberately using forwarded zink in half-life.

@neobrain bizarrely, in my testing, this appears to be the case. don't have it set up right now, but i pulled some previous (very rough) benchmark results in the same area of the half-life training course, and the difference was stark (30fps with library forwarding, 45fps without). if you've got a particular title or app you'd like me to test, i can certainly look into that, too!

my best guess for the need of version overrides is that the pi 4b only supports up to openGL ES 3.1 officially, but the rootFS library at least claims to support further. whether or not it actually does i haven't tested yet.

@neobrain kinda solved my own problem! albeit in a very janky way...passing MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE with any value 4.6 or above seems to get these apps working- including half-life!

performance isn't quite what i was expecting given native library passthrough (around 25-30fps in stable areas, stuttering to 15 in others), but still a great PoC either way!

i'm almost certain this isn't the right way to deal with this issue (the raspberry pi 4b most certainly does not support openGL 4.6 natively...), but thought i'd flag it up either way. thanks so much again for your help thus far! again, if you'd like me to bring any of this up as a github issue, i'd be more than happy to oblige.

@neobrain ah! good grief- i had assumed i needed separate build commands for the guest/host libs (many failed attempts at ninja host-libs made me fear that was broken somehow...) this might need to be detailed on the wiki for newcomers (simply running ninja and ninja install again after setting up library builds)

thank you for that, though! i can now say with delight that glxgears and vkcube run wonderfully! curiously, half-life and glxinfo will still fail with GLXBadFBConfig (opcode 149 on wayland, 152 on x11, if that helps). this is absolutely progress though, which i'm very pleased to see!
